Overview

Me Saksham – District Thrust Area Project Report Introduction “Me Saksham” is a District Thrust Area initiative aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) by providing them with opportunities for livelihood enhancement, skill development, financial awareness, and market access. The project helped women become more confident and independent by giving them a platform to learn, grow, and showcase their products. It also encouraged networking, knowledge sharing, and better income opportunities for participants. The project was initiated through the collective efforts of the Rotary Clubs of Navi Mumbai and several other Rotary clubs across District 3142, whose wholehearted support helped make the initiative a grand success. Mega Sale Exhibition The three-day “Me Saksham” Mega Sale brought together women entrepreneurs and Self-Help Groups from Navi Mumbai, Thane, and various parts of Maharashtra. Approximately 60 stalls were set up to showcase and sell a wide range of products. The response from SHGs and women entrepreneurs was overwhelming, with requests for participation far exceeding the available stall capacity. The event provided a direct marketplace for these entrepreneurs, enabling them to connect with customers, increase visibility for their products, and generate income. Over the course of the three-day event, stall participants collectively generated sales of 2,07,000/-. Beyond the financial gains, the event instilled confidence, encouragement, motivation, and hope among the participants, strengthening their journey towards becoming truly “Saksham” (self-reliant). Awareness and Empowerment Seminar On the inaugural day, an extensive seminar was organized focusing on financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and women’s empowerment. Key topics covered included: Digital banking and safe financial transactions Access to loans and microfinance opportunities Formation and management of Self-Help Groups (Bachat Gats) Government schemes and welfare initiatives available for SHGs Inspirational success stories from women entrepreneurs A special highlight of the seminar was the sharing of inspiring journeys by: Ms. Jaya Jadhav, a successful transgender entrepreneur A successful SHG member who demonstrated the transformative impact of collective entrepreneurship The seminar witnessed participation from nearly 350 attendees, including SHG members, social workers, community leaders, and Rotarians. Vocational Skill Development Workshops On the second and third days, a series of vocational skill development workshops were conducted to equip participants with practical skills that could create additional livelihood opportunities. The workshops included training in: Woollen Item Making Invisible Necklace Making Toran Making Madhubani Painting More than 100 women actively participated in these hands-on sessions, gaining valuable skills that can help them start micro-enterprises or supplement their family income. Impact and Outcomes The Me Saksham initiative successfully achieved its objectives of: Providing market access to women entrepreneurs and SHGs Promoting entrepreneurship and self-employment Enhancing financial awareness and literacy Facilitating skill development and capacity building Encouraging economic independence among women Creating a platform for networking, learning, and growth Conclusion Me Saksham was far more than a sales exhibition. It served as a comprehensive empowerment platform that created opportunities, built confidence, developed skills, and inspired women to pursue economic independence with renewed determination. The project stands as a testament to Rotary’s commitment towards community development and women’s empowerment, transforming lives and creating pathways towards a more self-reliant and inclusive society.
