Overview
A Mangrove Clean up drive was organized with all the rotary clubs of Navi Mumbai and NSS students of SIES college and Vanshakti Foundation t0 mark the International Day for Conservation of Mangroves.
The plastic waste and garbage dumped into the creek by citizens end up choking the roots of these mangroves and hence pose a threat to the existence of the mangroves, which serve as a protection from flooding during heavy rains and during calamities like Tsunamis.
A total of 1200 kg of non-biodegradable waste was collected by the volunteers during the drive which was also supported by Maharashtra Security Forces and Department of Forest.
The efforts were covered in local newspapers as well as on social media.
